If I’ve learned anything from talking to IBM Power Systems* clients around the world—including the largest enterprises, hyperscale internet data center operators and managed service providers—when it comes to taking advantage of the cloud, a one-size approach does not fit all.
Having flexibility and choice is key. What works for one client may not be the best approach for another. Some organizations prefer a private cloud environment, while others engage the services of public cloud providers. For a growing number of our clients, a hybrid cloud environment that mixes the best of what private and public clouds can offer proves to be the most attractive option.

By connecting their Power Systems technology-based SoR—the core assets of the company—to systems of engagement (SoEs) running on public clouds, our clients get the best of both worlds with rapid application development and innovation, maximum agility, security, and control with hybrid cloud connectivity and management.

Regardless of which cloud computing paths our clients choose, another important factor is cost performance. New data-rich workloads (e.g., database as a service, analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and cognitive) demand maximum efficiency and greater cost performance to support their business initiatives. Closed or commodity technology is not up to this task.
