Impact on Domino

I can’t help but include a section focused on IBM Lotus Domino since it’s my specialty. The Domino program objects, which are stored in the QDOMINOxxx libraries, require conversion. Because some programs and services in these libraries are large, they can take a while to convert.

To have conversion estimation times report for the QDOMINOxxx libraries, you must specify them when collecting data with the Analyze Object Conversion (ANZOBJCVN) command. The easiest way to do this is to submit the command using QDOMINO* in the LIB parameter. For example:

SBMJOB CMD(ANZOBJCVN OPTION(*COLLECT) LIB(QDOMINO*) SPLFILE(*NO) SUBTREE(*NONE)) JOB(ANZOBJCOL)

Once the data’s been collected, run a report by issuing the following command:

SBMJOB CMD(ANZOBJCVN OPTION(*REPORT)) JOB(ANZOBJRPT)

I highly recommend that you convert the program objects prior to first use of the Domino server code to prevent any performance problems for end users.

If you’ve used the Domino’s multi-versioning capability, you may have versions still on your server that you no longer use. To determine which versions of Domino you’ve used on your server, issue the Work With Domino Servers (WRKDOMSVR) command. Press F11 to display the library used for each Domino server running on your System i platform or in the LPAR in which you’re executing the WRKDOMSVR command.

The libraries listed are the ones you’ll need to convert. To determine which Domino libraries reside on your system, issue the Work With Libraries (WRKLIB QDOMINO*) command. If you see other obsolete versions of Domino, you should remove them prior to upgrading to V6R1. You certainly don’t need to convert any libraries you no longer use, even if you decide to leave them on your server prior to the upgrade.

Domino libraries can take a considerable time to convert. The report in Figure 1 shows it will take 20 minutes, 37 seconds to convert the QDOMINO703 library and 14 minutes, 14 seconds to covert the QDOMINO800 library.

To convert the Domino libraries on your server, use the Start Object Conversion (STROBJCVN) command. This one uses Domino 7.0.3:

SBMJOB CMD(STROBJCVN LIB(QDOMINO703)) JOB(STROBJCVN)

The LIB parameter on the STROVJCVN command won’t take wild cards, so you’ll have to convert each Domino library on your system separately. For example, if you have both Domino 7.0.3 and 8.0.0 installed and actively in use on your server, you’ll need to submit one STROBJCVN command to convert library QDOMINO703 and another STROBJCVN command to convert library QDOMINO800.
