In October, I attended the Zend/PHP Conference for the first time. I see a lot of opportunities for integration between Lotus Domino, PHP and RPG so I’m anxious to expand my horizons. And what an expansion it was. ZendCon was unlike any other conference experience I’ve had.
For starters, ZendCon is very laid back with a wide range of dress from shorts and jeans to business casual. And the choice of mobile devices stood out too. While I carried my BlackBerry and Lenovo ThinkPad, most others rocked iPhones and MacBooks. I felt quite in the minority.
Another immediate standout was the sense of community. At breakfast before the opening session, all of the round tables were full with attendees discussing various topics. It wasn’t my normal conference scenario where people are sitting heads down, intently eating rather than interacting with one another. PHP clearly has a strong community.
