Simplifying Patch Management
IBM Systems Director Update Manager plugin makes it easy
Patch management is often a pain point when it comes to managing systems. IBM Systems Director 6.1 and later contains a plugin called Update Manager that provides patch management support for many IBM systems.
Update Manager can greatly simplify the monitoring and installation of new updates for your systems. By automatically checking for new updates from IBM and determining which systems are out-of-date, Update Manager makes it easy to determine the updates that are needed for your systems and to schedule installations. This helps minimize deployment time, as well as system downtime.
Update Manager uses a single designation of “update” for all of its supported types of maintenance, such as patches, fixes, service packs and new firmware levels. Update Manager supports the following types of updates:
- IBM System x server firmware and device drivers
- IBM BladeCenter module and blade server firmware
- IBM AIX Technology Levels and Service Packs
- IBM Power Systems Firmware
- IBM Hardware Management Console
- IBM Virtual I/O Server
- IBM i Cumulative PTF package and PTF Groups
- IBM Systems Director server application and its agents
- RHEL and SLES operating-system updates
More information on the updates and systems supported by Update Manager can be found at the Supported updates Web site.
