Lists are always popular. There’s "5 Things to Eat Before You Die" and the "Five Best Movies of All Time". The computer world’s no different. We’ve recently seen PC World’s "10 Things We Love About Apple" and Tech Republic’s "10 things to remember when replacing a PC". Perhaps unable to come up with 10 things, others address a more modest list of five--for example, Matt Cutts’ "Five things you didn’t know about Google’s search" or Jon and Susan’s list of "The five things I always do with a new install of WDSC". Yes, we’ve re-entered the list business! (For those who’ve forgotten, our initial foray was "The Seven Deadly Sins of ILE."
So here’s our list:
1. Filter out “information” messages (i.e., severity 0) from the iSeries error list view.
To do this, use the iSeries error list view pull-down menu, take the Show Severity option and click “Off” the Information option. You can access the view pull-down menu by clicking on the inverted triangle near the right edge of the view’s top bar.
While in this area, Jon also changes the setting for the Messages option to “Insert Selected Only”. When selected, double-clicking on an error will only insert the error text associated with that specific error.
