The IBM Offering Information Tool (OI Tool) provides access to a variety of IBM product information. It can help you understand configuration options and capabilities for IBM hardware and software products.

The OI Tool is a Web-based search portal, which provides access to several different sources of information. For example, the OI Tool can help you to understand the capabilities of a particular server: How many processors? How much memory? How many disk bays? You can also find information on all of the features codes that are supported for use with that server.

The OI Tool provides product configuration information to assist you with planning for initial orders and upgrades, along with lifecycle management. The OI Tool doesn’t contain information on how to use or customize IBM products; you won’t find user’s guides or service manuals here.

Navigating the Site

After you enter your primary language and country, you’ll be taken to the Offering Information search portal. Clicking on the drop-down arrow for “Type of Content,” you can choose from the following information sources:

  • Announcement Letters
  • HW & SW description (Sales manual, RPQ)
  • Offering Catalog
  • Global Promotions
  • Marketing Materials
  • Presentations
  • White Papers

For this article, we will focus on Announcement Letter and HW & SW description content. You may want to investigate the other content types as well, for they contain additional information that you might find valuable.
